In email marketing, configuring a Sending Domain is essential for improving email deliverability and ensuring messages reach the inbox. Setting up a sending domain aligns your email’s “From” address with a verified domain, which also includes adding proper DKIM, SPF, and DMARC records to establish trust with receiving email servers.
Setting up a sending domain helps authenticate your emails, which increases their chances of landing in your recipients’ inboxes instead of their spam folders. It does this by:
Matching the From Address: Ensures that emails appear to come directly from your domain, reinforcing brand consistency.
Improving Deliverability: Properly configured domains with DKIM, SPF, and DMARC records enhance trust, making it more likely for emails to bypass spam filters.
Building Sender Reputation: Authenticating your domain with DKIM and SPF helps build a good sender reputation with ISPs (Internet Service Providers), which improves your overall deliverability rates.
Here’s how to configure a sending domain:
1. Create Your First Sending Domain
Go to the Sending Domains section in the dashboard.
Click on Create New to add a new domain.
Enter your domain name in the input field (e.g., demo.com) and click Save Changes to initiate the setup process.
2. Verify DNS Records for Your Domain
After adding your domain, our Email App will generate DNS records that need to be added to your domain’s DNS settings. This includes DKIM, SPF, and DMARC records.
DKIM Record: The DKIM record is provided as a TXT record, which includes a unique key to authenticate your email. Copy the provided TXT record and add it to your DNS settings.
SPF Record: The SPF record is a TXT record format specifying the IPs or servers authorized to send emails on behalf of your domain. This record is crucial for preventing spoofing and increasing deliverability.
Make sure to replace the placeholder IPs (e.g., 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2) with your server’s actual IPs while adding the SPF record.
DMARC Record: DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance) helps protect against email phishing by ensuring that both DKIM and SPF are properly aligned. Add the DMARC record as a TXT record to complete the setup.
3. Update Your DNS Settings
Log in to your domain’s DNS hosting provider (e.g., GoDaddy, Cloudflare, Namecheap).
Navigate to the DNS management section.
Add the provided DKIM, SPF, and DMARC records exactly as shown, ensuring the values match what is displayed.
Save the changes to your DNS settings.
Please note that DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate, though it often happens faster.
4. Verify Your Domain
Once you’ve added the DNS records, return to the dashboard and click Verify DNS Records. Our Email App will check if the records are correctly configured.
If verification is successful, your domain will be marked as verified and ready for use.
If verification fails, double-check the DNS entries to ensure they are correct, and try verifying again after some time.
Once verified, your sending domain is ready to use for your email campaigns. By using a verified domain:
Your emails will appear to come from your domain’s email address, building trust with recipients.
The DKIM and SPF authentication helps ensure email deliverability, making it more likely your messages will reach the inbox.
The DMARC record protects your domain from phishing and spoofing attacks, improving your domain’s reputation.
Use Consistent Domain Names: When setting up multiple sending domains, use a consistent structure to maintain brand recognition.
Monitor Domain Health: Regularly check your domain’s health and reputation to keep your email deliverability high.
Avoid Frequent Domain Switching: Frequently changing domains can harm your sender reputation. Try to maintain consistency with your sending domains.
